Hello, I am Katie Houghton, Office manager of Dixfield Discount Fuel. This is the busiest time for our crew, but is also our favorite time of year, it’s the annual DDF Toy Drive! This is the 11th year of this project. Last year being the biggest, and most amazing amount of donations to date. We made a huge impact within the River Valley. We donated truck loads of toys, clothing, and gift cards to all local schools. We went to DES, RES, Meroby, Chisholm, and Penacook. We also got to do a little gift giving to some middle school kids.
What we are looking for going forward is more community help and involvement on this project. We want to improve this toy drive every year, and we need your help. With Covid-19 we feel like this year may be the hardest year yet, especially without Pumpkin Fest or our Dance for Toys at the Eagles Hall in Rumford.
This community has been nothing short of amazing to grow up in, as well as raise our families. I have seen over and over the generosity that we have around us. This kind of stuff is what makes us proud to be from the River Valley.
When we all pull together to make these local benefits, and toy drives successful it really shows that we all can be quite the team.
We understand that these days are very different than ever before. We get it. Missie and I are both full-time working moms, wives and now add teaching to the mix. These days are hard. As we get accustom to the new Covid lifestyle, we worry about the children struggling out there.
We see firsthand the families that are struggling in this area. If we all chip in and help these children in need at no better time than the holidays, it will make a difference. This toy drive gets our blood pumping and gets the creativity flowing. We are always thinking of more ways to help and make this better and help more children.
Therefore, we are looking for help from all the local businesses. We get donations of toys, educational games, ear buds and so much more. We accept gift cards and cash to purchase clothing for the children that need it. We were lucky enough to buy winter coats, snow pants, gloves, hats, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, jeans, shoes and winter boots last year.
Our areas youth are in need. Last year we got to make toiletry bags from the dollar tree for 40 middle schoolers with a special $5.00 Dunkin gift card in each bag. We would love to continue something like this. With the help of our community we can give more children something under the tree at Christmas time. No donation is to big or to small. If we all work together, we will make it happen!
If you have it in your budget to help us with this amazing toy drive, we would love to take on the responsibility of getting the items needed and delivering them all. We appreciate anything you can donate. If you can’t help with a donation at this time could you please help spread the word, by sharing on social media and or posting this flyer publicly.
Thank you,
Katie Houghton and our DDF Crew
